Blessing of the Backpacks & First Day of Sunday School

All children start in church!

Join us for a festive start to our Sunday School year! At the beginning of our 10am service, we will bless the backpacks of our young parishioners and commission our Sunday School volunteers. Children who attend will get a special St. John's backpack tag. We are so excited to continue our program of faithful formation for the future members of our church! Don't forget: The Holy Smokes BBQ follows the service!

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
